Walk for Hearing Houston History
Our first Walk4Hearing was held in May, 2006. The Walk Chair was Lois Johnson. With the Chapter's share of the money from the 2006 walk, we paid for CART for 2007 at our chapter meetings, and for the Trychin Workshop which was held in June, 2007.
Our second Walk4Hearing was held October 6, 2007, at Tom Bass Park Section III, with Walk Chair Lois Johnson. With the Houston Chapter's share of the funds from 2007 we paid for CART for our 2008 chapter meetings, and we hosted a workshop in March 2009. We also expanded our newsletter outreach.
Our Third Walk4Hearing was held November 1, 2008 at Tom Bass Park Section III with walk Chair Paula Moore. Again we paid for CART for 2009 Chapter meetings and continued to expand our newsletter outreach.
Our Fourth Walk4Hearing was held November 7, 2009 at Tom Bass Park Section III with Walk Chair Allan Ofield. With the proceeds we paid for CART for 2010 Chapter meetings and have planned a Red Cross workshop for CPR/AED training featuring CART and ASL interpreters. We are also funding scholarships for several young adults to the 2010 HLAA National convention in Milwaukee, WI., June 17 to 20, 2010.
Our Fifth Walk4Hearing was held November 6, 2010 at Tom Bass Park Section III with Walk Chair Allan Ofield. This year was our most sucessful one yet thanks to the great leadership of Karen Davin and her team. With these proceeds we hope to host several fully accessible events in the community as well as send some members to HLA national convention in Washington, DC.
